Schwarzach Minster

District of Rastatt

Not only can the impressive building be seen from far away; the ‘Schwarzach Minster’ is one of the most important historic buildings in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Originally it was the church to a Benedictine monastery, of which the Baroque outbuildings and the grand entrance have been preserved. Today, the ‘Romanesque Minster of Schwarzach’ plays host to concerts featuring well-known performers. The incredible acoustics and very special atmosphere of this place provide truly unique experiences. Another very special event is the ‘Schwarzacher Kirwe’, a celebration which has been taking place on the third Tuesday in October for over 700 years now. The festivities are held to mark the reconstruction of the church after it had been severely damaged by a fire back in 1299.
